Brief History of Organization

 

Panorama- the Palestinian Center for the Dissemination of Democracy & Community Development was established in 1991 in Jerusalem. The center works to contribute to community development, and to promote issues that are related to the relationship between the citizen and the society, as a means to build a pluralistic Palestinian civil society.

Panorama is a non- governmental, non- profit organization that runs its programs through three offices in Ramallah, Jerusalem, and Gaza. Our programs and activities aim to raise the awareness of the Palestinian people on democratic concepts, and notions of the civil society.

Panorama is actively working to promote and disseminate issues related to democracy, human rights, participation in public life and the different decision- making processes that are based on the concept of freedom of expression.

 

 

Mission

 

Our mission is to actively participate in community development and to raise public awareness on issues related to civil society in Palestine.

 

 

Objectives

 

  • To participate in the development of Palestinian society, and to promote the notions of the civic society amongst Palestinians.

  • To disseminate the norms of citizenship, accountability, transparency, and good governance.

  • To help the Palestinians build a civil, democratic, and pluralistic society.

  • To develop capacity building programs for the development human resources and institutional capacities of the different sectors and organizations.

  • To raise the awareness of the youth who would be the ones to adopt democracy as their way of live and to strengthen democratic leadership qualities among them.

  • Promote the scientific research methodology and provide young researchers with the required skills and researching opportunities.

  • To establish and develop community development centers.

  • To activate and promote local cooperation and networking between the civil society organizations and the governmental sector.

  • To develop cultural projects and activities in Palestine.

  • To network and coordinate with other organizations and groups interested in democracy and community development at the local, regional, and international level.

Contribution:  The center organizes an annual competition to reward volunteers from the center and other centers and/ or volunteers making change within their local communities
