Brief
History of Organization |
In 1996, a
group of young Palestinian with some expertise in cross-cultural
exchange and international volunteering decided to establish a
pilot project that aims at empowering and developing the youth
sector in Palestine through training, raising awareness and
international relations. The idea was a voluntary contribution
from young leaders towards the major national goal of
establishing an active, modern and democratic Palestinian Civic
Society. This initiative led to the establishment of the
International Palestinian Youth League as an independent, non
partisan youth organization that targets young Palestinians aged
between 15-35 years old. Even since, IPYL contributed to
facilitating informal education and learning, as well as
intercultural exchanges and provided the new generation of
Palestinians with the necessary resources to face the daily
challenges they encounter. |
Mission |
IPYL’s mission is to empower youth aged 15-35 against social,
economical, and political challenges in Palestinian society,
which the Israeli occupation has aggravated. As a result of
this, Palestinian youth have been denied educational
opportunities, sites for cultural activities, and community
development resources. |
Vision |
To provide
the local community with a core group of active individuals who
will work on the promotion and facilitation of further outreach
activities, initiate new projects and encourage the formation of
a solid and encompassing network composed of different
Palestinian and international organizations. Members, leaders,
staff and volunteers of IPYL believe and work for a brighter
future for Palestine and the Palestinian people. |
Objectives |
To
imbue young people with a spirit of independence, creativity and
entrepreneurship in social, civic, cultural and environmental
spheres and to encourage them to take an active role in their
communities
To
aid and assist the underprivileged sectors of Palestinian
society, through the provision of training services,
to better access educational opportunities, to find suitable
employment and play an active role in their community
To
promote awareness of the dangers of discrimination including
xenophobia, sexism and all forms of racism and to reinforce the
importance of equal opportunities in all sectors of society
throughout their lives
To
instil in young people the importance of democracy in the
organization of society, and to enhance their awareness of the
principles of human rights as elucidated in the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights and related international covenants
and agreements
To
encourage young people to recognize the value of cultural
diversity, to actively explore other cultures and belief-systems
with an open mind and to work with the young people of
neighbouring countries to achieve a real peace in the region
based on mutual respect, justice and equality.
